Hodgkinson Wraps Up Season with Victorious Display at Athlos Meet in New York
Hodgkinson recorded her personal best of one minute 54.61 seconds the previous season in the British capital.
Keely Hodgkinson concluded her 800m season with a win at the all-female Athlos event in NYC on Friday evening.
{The reigning Olympic champion, who secured third place at the World Championships recently, excelled in an outstanding victory in 1:56.53 in what was only her sixth race in a season affected by a hamstring injury.
Fellow Briton and world silver medallist Georgia Bell finished second once more in one minute 58.33 seconds, while St Vincent's Shafiqua M. (1:58.57) secured third place.
"I've barely raced this year so it was likely less of a struggle for me to compete and be motivated to perform," stated the 23-year-old.
"The atmosphere at the event is crazy so it was extremely enjoyable."
The women-only meet packed the stadium in its second year, introducing a festive vibe to conventional athletics, with musical performances and special crowns replacing standard medals.
The 23-times tennis major winner Serena W., who is married to the founder of Athlos Alexis Ohanian, was on hand to present the winners with their tiaras.
Previous champions received $60,000 (forty-four thousand six hundred and three pounds) - one of the largest prize purses in athletics.
The competition also drew some of the sport's biggest names, as the Kenyan triple Olympic champion and global record breaker Faith Kipyegon won the mile, finishing in 4:17.78.
The US Brittany Brown, the 200m bronze medallist from the recent Paris Games, won the 100m and 200m double.
