Donald Trump Abandons Plans to Dispatch Government Forces to San Francisco Bay Area
The President has scrapped arrangements for a dispatch of federal troops to the Bay region that had sparked widespread condemnation from local authorities and sent protesters gathering in the city centers.
Regional Tension Over Reported National Deployment
The region had been on edge after reports surfaced that the administration was ready to send over a hundred CBP and other federal agents to the government installation in across the Bay, as part of a large-scale border control operation.
Executive Action Following Talks
However, the president stated he would not advance with a “escalation” of national agents in the area after speaking with the city leader, Daniel Lurie, and business figures including Marc Benioff and technology leader.
“Through our exchange, the national leader assured me clearly that he was terminating any plans for a national operation in this municipality,” the mayor stated in a statement.
