A systems problem at Edinburgh's air traffic control meant no aircraft could arrive or depart from the hub.

Passenger services have recommenced at Scotland's primary international airport after a major technical issue at the control tower grounded all flights.

All incoming and outgoing flights were suspended after an IT issue that arose around 08:30.

Several flyers were left waiting in aircraft on the tarmac as the outage continued.

Operations Restart with Ongoing Delays

Officials announced at 10:40 that services were back online, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "patience and understanding".

That said, significant disruption are expected to continue throughout the day. Services bound for London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been cancelled, with many others experiencing delays.

Officials had initially projected that dozens of flights could be disrupted.

"Travelers are urged to get in touch with their carrier for the most up-to-date details on their individual travel plans," officials reiterated.

Root of the Disruption

Officials linked the full ground stop to an technical fault with its air traffic control provider.

Travelers are still being urged to confirm the details of their trip before departing to the terminal as knock-on effects are worked through.
